Away from Home, a Poem

December 22, 2006 / by organizedchaos

Early mornings, late nights
Watching as my breath rises on the frosty morning air
Feeling the emptyness as my heart sinks
You welcome me into your home, but it feels like a void

I watch as you hug your family every day
I wish I could feel the warm embrace
Instead all I feel is cold
Lonelyness like a vice around my heart

I see families smiling, the eyes have it
The depth, the warmth, the compassion
Do they know what I feel?
Foreign, alone, and lost

You don't have to feel any of the last line and I hope you don't. Get back to your family--as good as the poem is it doesn't atke the place of your boys and wife.
